Contributions from our community to the Ukiah ‘Can’ Scholarship have been incredible in the past year. Under the dedication and commitment to the program by Chris Helburg, students graduating from Ukiah School have greater access to funds to support their higher education.
The Ukiah ‘Can’ Scholarship was established by Chris several years ago with funds collected by picking up discarded can as she walked the community. Others have stepped in to support her efforts by giving full bags, aiding in can collections, encouraging others to donate, and helping sort and process. This combined effort has resulted in a donation to the program of $3500 this year alone. These funds have been added to the existing scholarship and continues to grow with intent to become self sustaining and provide opportunities for Ukiah students far into the future.
Members of our community that have supported the program and donated cans have helped tremendously in its success.
